A neighbor of mine that I chat with from time to time about computers just stopped me outside. Said after all I've been saying about ssd's went out and got one a crucial 240. Said the only way he could get it to show up in bios was to format it. My face was like WHOAH )0. you don't format an ssd. Now he can't get windows to install. I told him he may have fried it. Am I right?

No. You can format a SSD. But typically they come formatted from the factory.
