I have been trying access the Task Scheduler on my wife's laptop and what I get is a window stating. "The remote computer was not found"

I'm sure that the tasks I installed are not working and I'm trying to defragment the drives. When I put Disk Defragment in Start search the window comes up but shows that I cannot access any schedule tasiks.

Did it used to work fine and suddenly stop? Can you manually run Defrag?

See Schedule Disk Defragmenter to run regularly.

That said, I personally am not a fan regularly scheduled defragging because the system does not clean out potentially 1000s of tiny temporary files first. And I feel that is counter-productive to an effective defragging. And the reality is, you don't need regular defragging if you have lots of free disk space - and disk space is cheap.

What I get on her computer is"Disk Defragmneter cannot start because the Task Scheduler Service is not running, Try again later,"

I've tried many times with the same results. I can not start the Disk Deftranmenter manually because I get the same message. Years ago on one of my older computers I was able to manually defrag by hitting one of the f buttons repeatedly when I rebooted.

Sorry for the delay in answering, had to take my wife to hospital and was there with her for a day. Everything fine now, just tired.
