First, please don't yell at me if I'm in the wrong section. Second, I just switched from PC to Mac, and I feel like I've been pushed back years of experience. I bought an iMac and a 1TB Passport Studio and when I plugged it into the FirePort, set it up, and started Time Machine, it started a 15 hour encryption process that STILL isn't done. As we speak, it's on 47% and it has been encrypting data for HOURSSSS. I have no idea how Time Machine works, but I disconnected it last night and I think it was still encrypting, even though the files I copied over to it were done and complete. I don't know if it's backing something up, or what it's doing. I'm ignorant on the matter and I want to disconnect it because the ext hard drive is getting hot. Also, when you disconnect, do you HAVE to let it spin down or can you unplug as soon as you eject? I did not let it spin down last night, but I did eject it. I spent nearly $200 on this thing and I've had one Western DIgital crash on me years ago. I don't want to mess it up!! Thanks, from the Hopeless Mac User
Sorry for you loss. Sorry, couldn't resist. That said, I have moved your thread to Alternative Operating System Help in the hopes your issues get the attention of someone more knowledgeable with Macs. That said, you might be better off posting your problem at one of the Mac forums.
Aww. I knew I posted in the wrong section! DAL is primarily for PCs I take it, if any Mac questions have to be posted in an "Alternative" forum. Thanks for the help
