monitor shuts down

    I have Hp monitor and a friend gave me a tower and the system is ran by ubuntu now when I am on facebook and playing games my monitor shuts sown turns black with white lines kinda looks like a pianio key board then says no signel and when I turn it on it says no Video input... Please help me

    I am sorry it says when turning it on no DVI Input No imput signal

    @Michelle D:
    I would first plug the HP monitor into a different computer and see what it does. If it works OK on a different computer, then I would suspect a bad/flaky video card in the tower system your friend gave you. You could also try plugging a different monitor into the "tower system" and see what happens. I kinda doubt that the problem is with "Ubuntu", since you indicate that the monitor works for a while before it goes out.

    i had the same thing happen a few times before check all the connections from monitor to pc and make sure they are tight. I had a loose power cable on my monitor that was the cause once before. The other time my video card was overheating and shutting down. Did you overclock? Does the case have good vents?
