Here is some more useful links The table of equivalents / replacements / analogs of Windows software in Linux. (Official site of the table) FOSSwire Apt-get Guide - Linuxhelp Wiki Ubuntu:Hardy - Ubuntu:Intrepid - Linux Command Directory: Index The LiveCD List Happy Linuxing
Thanks for the list, there are a few that I don't have which I will be adding to my bookmarks. Here is one that is a must for all new linux users, The Linux filesystem explained . Wine setup might also be useful. I noticed a lot of Ubuntu links but you failed to list my favorite distro PCLinuxOS
Sorry bkdc. I can't get PCLinux OS to bootup on any off my boxes. You can post all the help links you wish for PCLinuxOS that you want. I also run Puppy Dingo Linux and NimbleX2008 but I concentrate on Ubuntu since I have that installed on 2 Laptops and 1 Desktop. You can fire away to your hearts content as far as I am concerned. Happy To have some fellow Linux users in this predominately Windows forum anyhows. http://www.yolinux.com/
Thats odd, I use PCLinuxOS on two of desktops with no problem. In fact the reason that I went with PCL was that I had so many problems trying to configure Ubuntu that i got frustrated. I dowloaded PCL about a year ago, did the install, and wamo, I was up and running. :taz: The only problem I encountered was configuring my wireless network & that turned out to be a minor encryption problem. I've recently tried Ubuntu live cd & could not even get to load. ????? I'm currently running PCLinuxOS 2007; 2009 is due to be released shortly & I'm excited. Hopefully it will be as good as 2007.
Well, thats the cool thing about choice. You can run what you brung so to speak. Just look at all the choices on the live cd list. Also the How to Forge Link and Fosswire and Table of equivalents and a lot of other links i try to provide Like Linux Command.org Are not distro specific. Neither are some of the APC Mag articles. Speaking of Free Downloadable Linux mags Here are some free ones. Full Circle Magazine
I just wanted to say thanks for posting the link to GetPCLinuxOS. I've recently taken over the site and am doing major damage (changes..lol). As some of you may be aware, PCLinuxOS is about to release the last TR for its up and coming 2009 edition. PCLinuxOS is also what's called a META distro which simply means you always have the latest by updating through APT or Synaptic. I'm proud to be a part of the team there, and invite any and all Linux users, and others to come join in the fun... Happy 2009!! CSolis aka Linuxera (EFudd, this week only...)
csolisnfl, nice to have you join the forum. Now I have a PCL insider that I can direct my silly questions to. By the way, damage to the site looks minimal :sweatdrop Keep up the good work.
Thanks guys.. I'm not much of a hacker, just a server admin, mod, irc cop, etc.. But I did bring a friend along named Hootiegibbon.. He's a great one for answering questions.. Very knowlegeable indeed. Maybe I can sway a few more of our experts to take a peek over here and help out as needed..:flowers:
HI. I have read post after post on Ubuntu. Ubuntu has a lot of net hook up problems. When I tried it with dial up I did not get it to work. I tried PCL user name, password, phone #, up & working. I have wireless net. I have had good luck running PCL. Two years +. Looking forward for the up and coming 2009 edition.
