i have an ati rage 128 pro gfx card with 32 mb ram. i'm on win xp. my problem is that sometimes my display freezes for several seconds and then my system reboots. when i start it again and log in, i'm greeted with the error that some device has failed.

this is the desc in the event viewer:

The driver ati2draa for the display device \Device\Video0 got stuck in an infinite loop. This usually indicates a problem with the device itself or with the device driver programming the hardware incorrectly. Please check with your hardware device vendor for any driver updates.

i get the names of three files regarding this error ati2dvaa.dll, ati2draa.drv and ati2mpaa.something.

please tell me if this error can be fixed somehow. i have tried both normal and reference ATI drivers for my card, driver version is 6.13.3279. i don't know what is the diff between them.

only this time i had not installed the driver when i got this error [ after fresh xp install]. then i installed the driver and again got the same error.

i have to keep it installed as i can not play gta vice city without it.

ATI has not provided wth newer versions of the driver. is it possible to get the fixed versions of trouble causing files somewhere?
    thanx

How old is the card? What type of plug does it have (agp, pci)? If you hadn't even installed the driver and got that message, it sounds like you need a new card.

it's got an agp plug. abt 5 yrs old. i'll be getting my system upgraded. which should i go with Radeon or GeForce?
also i'd like to know what will be the recommended config for the most graphic intense [i mean textures] , or the most demanding game.
