    Game and video plugin help please

    I was trying to play my copy of Unreal Tournament 2004 and when it loaded this popped up:

    UT2004 Build UT2004_Build_[2004-09-07_17.17]

    OS: Windows XP 5.1 (Build: 2600)
    CPU: GenuineIntel Unknown processor @ 2596 MHz with 1022MB RAM
    Video: No Video

    Assertion failed: RenDev [File:.\WinViewport.cpp] [Line: 645]

    History: UWindowsViewport::OpenWindow <- UGameEngine::Init <- InitEngine <- FMallocWindows::Free <- FMallocWindows::Free

    I think I know what the problem is. I swapped the video plugin from Direct X to Software (I don't know what I was thinking) and know can't switch it back. I just need a way to switch the video plugin back. Please don't tell me that I have to re-install it.

    Thank you for any help that you may give and I hope this is a apporite post for this forum.

    You say you "swapped the video plugin from Direct X to software";

    How exactly did you do that?

    Also; go to; Start > Run > dxdiag & check for problems.

    In the game I went under the Video tab, selected video plugin, the box scrolled down, it said Direct X and under it Software. I selected Software, a box came up saying "The graphics have been successfully selected, but will not change untill restarted. Restart now?" or something like that. I selected Yes, it restarted, and that message came up. I checked for problems earlier, and it was fine.

    & you cant go back to that same option & change it?

    Do you have other graphics problems?

    Have you look in the Device Manager?

    What about the Event Viewer for more specific errors?

    I can't go back and change it, have no know graphic problems, and pretty sure it's no error, just my own stupidity. But please tell me how to use the Device Manager and Event Viewer. I can't find them.

    start > run devmgmt.msc (device manager)

    start > run eventvwr.msc (event viewer)

    device manager look for any yellow "!" as you expand certain areas such as display & video etc.

    event viewer look thru the 3 tabs for red X that might corespond to the time of the game error
