not sure i understand exactly. are u trying to do a fresh install of xp onto a blank HDD?
do u know how to get into your BIOS settings? there you would want to make sure you are set to boot from CD, then boot with the CD in drive. is this any help?

[Situation]I got BIOS running and have full access to it.... I set CD-ROM drive as primary boot device.... and I am trying to install Windows XP to a clean HDD....
[Problem] When I try to install Windows XP the pc boots up the disk but then freezes when it trys to install....

so then i put a HDD that had windows XP on it and after it verified pool data it rebooted

Is this an "original" CD that you have purchased?

xp is dedicated to a single computer. a drive with xp on it that came from another computer will not work on a different computer.

sorry if i have misunderstood your problem.

No it is a lagit OEM copy of XP Professional that I have purchased off of zipzoomfly.com the disc aint the problem I think it has to do with a setting in the BIOS I didnt set cause I just put all the hardware together....I set the CPU and everything else correct but dont understand why it reboots for no reason what wattage should I run the Power Supply at maybe thats the problem?

If you mean "what power output should the power supply have", then 300watts ought to be OK. If you're trying to run that graphics card and the rest of it in a PC with an old 200w PSU, then it could be struggling.

When the PC goes through the POST process (where it reports on the screen the memory and processor that it has detected), does it report any errors? Does it beep? One short beep indicates that everything is OK - any other kind of beep is generally a warning about something.

If it's seems to be POSTing OK, then you might want to try going into the BIOS and choosing the 'Fail-Safe Defaults' or 'Reset to Factory Defaults' or whatever similar option you have in your BIOS. There's normally an option which gets it to disable any particularly clever bits that might be causing a compatibility problem.

    I just put a Celeron 2.0 ghz cpu in a Abit V17
First, I want to ask you this did you built your own PC or you just bought the whole system from the third party distirbutor?

Second, Did you check to see if the Celeron 2.0 ghz is compatible with your motherboard Abit V17? Does it supports the Celeron 2.0 ghz or is it just a P4 processor.

Third, just saying Abit V17 isnt clear enough to tell the reader which model specifications you are talking about, do you mean by this: I just put a Celeron 2.0 ghz cpu in a ABIT MB VI7 P4 SOCKET478 VIA-PT800 800FSB DDR400 AGP8X AUDIO SATA150 RAID...would be better.

That still doesn't tell you whether it supports a 2.0GHz Celeron, Tech !

try and do a minimal hardware minimal install. remove/unplug any hardware which you dont need to install windows. this includes using only one stick of memory if you have 2 sticks. also disable virus protection in the BIOS. good luck.
