    Congrats on the new comp

What kinda plug does the joystick have? USB? or?

Here is the official doc on your error msg:

Error message when you install or start an MS-DOS or 16-bit Windows-based program

Maybe you could get an adaptor. I don't know where you'd find one though, try internet searchs or computer store. Hope this helps.

    Your pic. rules.

    That's a serial port.

"Considered to be one of the most basic external connections to a computer, the serial port has been an integral part of most computers for more than 20 years. Although many of the newer systems have done away with the serial port completely in favor of USB connections, most modems still use the serial port, as do some printers, PDAs and digital cameras. Few computers have more than two serial ports."

    Your comp has none?

There are Serial/USB adapters such as this:

    Belkin Serial/USB Adapter Cable

Make sure you check the specs for compatability. You can probably find these at any good comp hardware store.

Also make sure the adapter is serial 'female' to a USB 'male''
The one in my link I believe from the pic is the opposite.

And just another thought; tho i have no idea what kinda joy stick you have perhaps you might consider a new stick seeing as these adapters are like $30.

did you try the fix from microsoft (that site) to reload these files?

    • Config.nt
    • Autoexec.nt
    • Command.com

This is an automated fix that just does step 4.

All this program does is replace 3 missing or corrupted files
    command.com, autoexec.nt and config.nt
It should be a permanent fix unless you have a program running at start up that is corruptiing the files.

    http://www.visualtour.com/downloads/xp_fix.exe

If this problem recurs after a reboot you have something on your computer corrupting these files. Check your startup entries, post a HiJack This log in the Spyware section to find out what's up.

To stop the files from being deleted you can also find them, open them & make them "read only".
