    ReadProcessMemory error

    Hi All

I'm trying to fix a PC that keeps displaying "ReadProcessMemory error - request could not be completed" whenever I try and run an exe program. Nothing will run except in safe mode when all exe programms run perfectly well

I'm trying to determine whether it's a hardware of software glitch. Apparently the machine started becoming unstable when my neighbour was using the internet, so she close dit down and switched it off.

I've run av and ad aware and hijack this in safe mode - there's nothing suspicious found

    Any ideas anyone?

    Thanks

    Steve

i think it's a issue with your software somehow could not execute but run perfectly fine, as you said, when booted into safe mode.

first, what kind of exe program is it that you were trying to open

Second, search all the *.exe files and try open it one by one to determine if ALL the exe files produce that same error: "ReadProcessMemory error - request could not be completed" message.

I dont think uninstalling and reinstalling certain program file will do the trick for this case because I think it's a issue with software code you've installed itself, you MIGHT have to use DOS and debug that code. But DONT NEVER EVER use debugging tool if your not a qualified debugger as modifing the code will sometimes corrupt the system.

Just to give you the basic idea as to what this ReadProcessMemory is click on the link below:

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...cessmemory.asp

There was a case where Kazaalite program users installed an extra 512 MB of DDR RAM and by doing so, his kazaalite program no longer execute

try download the RAM test utility from the link below:

Thanks for the reply. Sounds a reasonable set of ideas but what I'm confused about is that it's ALL the exe programmmes and ONLY when run in NORMAL mode. if I switch to SAFE...all the exe programs work just fine - STRANGE!

I agree that reinstalling probably won't solve it...and all the progs are OK in SAFE mode anyway. Do you thinkn it might be a hardware problem rather than software?

Thanks for the links...I'm off for a read and I'lltry out the memory tester too

    hey, Steve

when did this problem happen? what were you doing just before this problem occured? if you can still remember

when the error message pops up did it give you any code info other than the one you mentioned in your post, for example,

if its a OS error code it should give you this informations:
    Code Description Name
0 The operation completed successfully ERROR_SUCCESS

I really doubt that hardware is causing you this kind of trouble because you run perfectly OK in safe mode and it's just the issue with certain files, in this case a .exe program files.
maybe a virus infected your registry or Windows. Im not asking you to do this, since it is your computer, but only as a last-resort-suggestion try uninstall windows OS and reinstall it again.

    Hi again

Thanks for the reply. They weren't doing anything unusual with their PC..it just crashed...no error codes or any additional info. My guess is the same as you, in that maybe it's best to reinstall the OS

    Thanks or replying

    Steve
