No bckup in XP Home Edition

Hello, I had a virus Backdoor.Hacarmy and Norton could not get rid of it, but they showed the steps of how to delete it myself.
It said to I had close down Restore, but first I had to use Backup presumably so as not to lose any information. I then found out that Backup is not included in the XP Home Edition, so I went on with the instructions Norton gave and successfully deleted the virus.
Do I have to buy a Backup program from Microsoft or are ther any more that work with XP Home, I get fed up with Microsoft screwing every last penny out of its customers, so I dont mind giving my money to somewhere else as long as it works with XP. Thanks Kilgore

It is actually on the XP home Cd, just not installed by default

Insert the CD Rom and on the cd find the following folder

    X:\VALUEADD\MSFT\NTBACKUP
(where X is the letter of your cd drive)
Double-click the Ntbackup.msi file to start the wizard that installs Backup

When the wizard is complete, click Finish.

for the most easiest way, use explore to backup any important files and or folders to floppy, zip, or CD-RW.
There are lots of backup software available in the market, the one I recommend is "Drive Image 7" cost is about $69, just order it online.

    You're paying too much if you're paying $69 ,

you can buy it in the UK for £29 from amazon and $47 from Eagle in the US

    Automatic System Restore (ASR)

    1. ASR is not supported on home edition.

IF you install NtBackup from the CD to the Home Edition, ASR functionality will appear to work fine during the backup session. Since the setup does not support ASR in the home edition, there is no way to initiate the ASR restore in case of a disaster. If you need to restore from this session, install Windows XP manually and then restore from the ASR media.

    2. Backup to CDRW

If you decide to backup to a CDRW, you cannot target that device directly. You must create a backup set of 650MB or less and backup to a file. After the file is complete, copy the file to the CDRW.
