    Having some problems

    Hi! I'm a newcomer in here ,
I having some problems w/my norton Not scanning once a week. I have windows XP professional. I have Norton anti-virus, firewall, spybot etc. Everything else is working fine, except my scanning once a week on Sunday @ 6am. Ever since I tried to installed that stupid SP2. But I went into add/remove, & remove it, cuz computer almost crashed. Didn't need that. Didn't have $ 300.00 up front again.Plus my computer tech, stated not to install sp2, cuz of all the bugs floating around. Another whopper, to asked u's. I have this game, it's a CD disk, it's the Law & Order II, well I was playing it, & now it's telling me that my virtual memory is low. I don't know how to upgrade it to 32bit. Cuz right now in my Display Setting I have is 16 bit & 24 bit in my color setting display. I contacted, legacyinteractive.com I explained everything, & told them how many bits I had, they insisted 4 me to go up to 32 bits for the game.so hope someone can answer me. Thanxs again! If u have to sleep on it it's ok, I'm Not in a rush . peggy

    Welcome peggy;

    1) Have you tried re-setting the schedualer in Norton's? Like turn it off & apply that; then reset it as you desire?

    2) You only have 16 & 24 bits as options under display options? Do you know if you had 32 bit before the SP2 shift? You probably need xp drivers for your card or chip.

    3) Do you know what graphics card you have? Or onboard chip?

    4) Does anything in the following link relate to your problems?

    Virtual Memory in Windows XP

To check you Virtual Memory allocation; right click My Computer; then Properties; then Performance; then Settings; then Advanced; then Virtual Memory; then Change; then check System managed size.

ty for reply to me so quickly. I found that virtual memory, and wrote sme of it down, that one part that I copy down, was something what Legacyinteractive, of Law&orderII, had sent me to do, step by step.Cuz I have other games like CSI, and all, & have NO problems with them.but then again they're 16bit.Law&OrderII I guess is much more of a ram.I was thinking of changing my day instead of Sunday for the scanning, maybe Saturday, cuz that's when I do everything. I do my defragment, check my security, do my spybot etc. I'm gonna contact Symatec, cuz after all, I don't start paying them till like March 2005.I think that SP2 did a #. Cuz, everything else works great. I just invited like 5 of my friends over here to register.Cuz a few of my friends, installed that SP2, & had nothing but problems, and my 1g/f, she will always ask. And another friend of mine she just bought a computer but a new learner.I tried to help her w/what I learned from going to computer classes@ a Library for free classes.I have a cable modem, 4 my internet. And my service pack is 1. thank u again so much peggy

Have you tried Windows Update to see if they detect you need new drivers?

You can check your Device Manager: right click My Computer; then Manange; then Device Manager; then look for your graphics card; right click it then Properties; then check for errors or upgrade drivers.

Or you can download Everest Diagnostic Tool to find the details of all these items here:

My driver's r all ok, I 4-got to mention, before. My tower was in the shop, for awhile, my computer tech, upgrade my computer to windowsxp home edition to professional, & he also upgraded everything, & check around for anything that might be leaking, or in any trouble.I took it to a shop up the street where I live, across where I pay my cable bill. He's a Microsoft&Dell. But my computer is a Hp.He's the one, that stated NOT, to installed the SP2, to requested Microsoft for a SP2A. And I did, but they don't have it.Most of my friends have professional, & too have installed SP2, & had nothing but problems afterwords. But be4, I did installed that, I did have 2 major blackouts, which cause funky colors on my computer. But my coloring is back to normal thank god!!! . But I did noticed last nite, I went into my add/remove, I seen some hotfix of SP2 still in there, could that be the problem? of why my norton is not scanning??? I have SP1.but I seen like 4 hot fixes of SP2 in there still should I removed them?? thanxs peggy

There have been 4 updates to SP2; since you uninstalled SP2 you might as well remove the updates. I don't know what effect they may or may not have without SP2.
I would suggest after removing them to check Windows Update just to see what they have for you.

Can you run a Norton Scan manually? Is it just the schedual that isn't working?

I mentioned the drivers because you should have the option to use 32 bit color.
Do you know what your graphics card is?

When you had major blackouts did you notice any error messages?

It's just my norton that I have to manually scan, otherwise everything else is running smoothly. When I log on, my firewall, & my anti-virus, ( norton) r on my botton right side, w/all my other goodies, like yahoo messenger, msn messenger. When I had the 2 major blackouts I didn't see any error's. But then again, I contacted my computer tech, he supposely thought it might be my motherboard. But I contacted comcast, they came out, they check it out, it was comcast's problem, so they fixed it, cuz it was also on my tv too, ( the funky coloring's on the screen of the tv) my internet is also on my cable too.I get reguraly Live updates, they run ok np @ all.My firewall runs great, alerts me to let me if someone or something is trying to get through my computer. Ever since I went from Home edition to professional, I haven't gotten attack by any hackers, or any spywares!!! Thank god! I don't know what my graphic card is, could u explain it a bit 4 me ? In english for me plz? I know alittle more about my computer then I did back in 2001, cuz I took classes. But when I get stuck? I freezed up! thnxs again peggy

Have you tried to reset your Norton settings?

As to your graphics; look in the Device Manager: Right click "My Computer" then click "Manage" then "Device Manager". What do you have under Display adapters? That should be your card or onboard chip that controls your display.

Tell us what you got & maybe I can search for updates etc.
