DVD-Rom wont read DVD's after XP SP2 (Really annoying! PLEASE help.)
Hi, Ive just installed XP service pack 2, and now my dvd-rom (hitacgi GD-8000) is VERY selective in what dvd's it reads. I can play audios and vcds, but for some reason, only certain dvds will play. Ive tried unstalling the rom, reinstalling powerdvd 4, tried a trial version powerdvd 5. I cant understand it, can anyone help here, I have a few rented dvds and I cant watch them, I cant even rip them as there nit recognized. Device manager says the rom is ok.
Please help.

Have you checked for driver updates for your cd-rom?
Check with your manufacturers website for any updates.

I tried updating from the xp wizard, but they said there was no further updates available. Tried to roll back to last driver, but xp said there was none.

Find out what make your drive is and contact the manufacturer direct.
Temporarily i would uninstall sp2 and go back to sp1 until you find a solution or there is a fix made available.

Novice, please try to avoid posting duplicate threads in the same message board or the same thread in different boards on D-A-L.com.
Incidentally, as the problem has only occurred since installing SP2, it does sound like an XP issue rather than a general hardware issue. Therefore, I'm going to move this to the XP message board. I do agree with 3|zERO - contact the drive manufacturer as they may be aware of a specific problem with XP SP2.
