PLS HELP!!!!...i re-installed XP...need sound+screen resolution
hey i know you all probably get this so many times but i re-installed windows about 4 months ago. i did a good job, got everything back, it was simple! This time, i wasn't so lucky, now i have no sound, no other resolution options, and i can't remember what i did to get it back, so my questions are:
1) how do i get my sound back? all i have is beeping noises coming from the tower.
2)how can i get the options back for my screen resolutions, everyone says to go under device manager and click on display drivers or something, i dont have that though!! any help would be much appreciated!!

Download Aida32 from my signature, install and run. Under computer/summary tell us what it says under display and multimedia. Post back.

I can't picture Windows XP off the top of my head at the moment but I think it's the same as Windows 2000 for this stuff. I'm pretty tired but I think I can picture all of the appropriate Windows 2000 screens so here goes !
READ ALL OF THESE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE YOU START.
Close all running programs.
On your desktop, right-click on My Computer. Go to Properties. Go to the Hardware tab. Click the Device Manager button.
Go to Sound Devices (or whatever it says to do with sound). If there's anything listed as a sound device, highlight it and delete/remove it.
Go to Display Adaptors (or whatever it says to do with graphics/display devices). You ought to only have one entry under here. Delete whatever is listed under Display Devices.
Click OK again and again until all the windows close. Reboot the PC straight away.
When Windows loads up again, it should automatically detect your sound card and graphics card. It will probably ask you for the driver CD. Insert the driver CD or point to wherever it is on your hard disk that you downloaded them to from the Internet.
That's why I said read ALL the instructions before you start!
Reboot again after installing the drivers. That should be it. Let us know

Ooops, Tassie Devil got there first. She wrote a bit quicker than me!

okies i downloaded that, and i actually did figure out the display resolutions, thats ok now, but i still have no sound, when i look under audio, it saws "windows audio" n theres nothing, then theres Pci/PnP Audio and that as an intel audio controller installed.

Delete each of those and then reboot. When Windows XP comes back on, it should prompt you for a driver for whatever are the correct sound-related items that it finds.

ok, when i went to go delete my audio drivers, i first looked at the cd to see what it said was installed, and it was checked meaning it was installed but when i clicked on it, it just installed anyways, weird...thank you all for helping, i'm back on track
