    Unhappy Safe Mode only

    Hi,

I'm having problems starting up my laptop. It starts in safe mode only and I can get internet access but haven't been able to start up normally in awhile. During start up there are vertical green lines running down the screen (think Matrix without specific characters) and then it starts up in safe mode. It's almost normal from there. I can get video and most programs but have no audio.

Here are my laptop & OS specs.

    Dell Inspirion XPS Gen2
    Processor - Intel 2127 Mhz, x86 Model 13 Stepping 8

XP Professional v.5.1.26, Service Pack 3

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,

Take a look at this page...

Laptop Repair Help » Laptop has bad video on the LCD screen. What is wrong?

If one of the screens there matches your problem, the solution will likely be the same.

Doesn't look like any of them apply as he gets a good screen in Safe Mode. This has to be video driver related I would think.

The first thing I would try is open Device Manager, expand Display Adapters and uninstall your video card. Then reboot normally and see what happens.

If that doesn't help then look here, see what driers are available for your video card/onboard chipset: Drivers and Downloads Dell Dimension XPS Gen2

This is what I see there:
