I receive automatic notification of all updates for my computer. Most dowload and install without any problem. For approx 3 months or more I have had one particular update which has downloaded ok but always fails to install.
This is the normal on screen messages which I receive after the updates have been downloaded: -
Automatic Updates
The updates are now being installed.
Installing Security Update for Microsoft, NET Framework 2.0 SP2 on Windows Server 2003 and Windows XPx86 (KB2656352) (update 1 of 1)
I receive an error message approx halfway through the installation. "Some updates could not be installed."
The following updates were not installed. " Security Update for Microsoft, NET Framework 2.0 SP2 on Windows Server 2003 and Windows XPx86 (KB2656352) (update 1 of 1)"
Of course that update then re-appears on the list repeatedly but always fails to install but other updates are installed with any problems.
I would be grateful ifanyone can suggest a remedy to the problem.
Look at CBS.log in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS. Open it with Notepad. Search for any lines that contain KB2656352. See what info they contain about it. May provide a clue to why it won't install.
Thank you for your reply to my query. I followed your instructions and used the 'Find' facility to attempt to locate any reference to KB2656352 in the search results. Response - Not found KB2656352
I searched Windows Update log folder and found several references to KB2656352 plus other KB files which are related to the update. I have attached a partial copy of two occurrences which may reveal some info as to why the downloads were not installed. I could also identify some similar instances where I have rejected the downloads when included in further auto updates. This is because I was aware that they would not install after downloading.
Received an update notification late pm yesterday with seven updates, including the two previously failed items. Allowed download followed by successful installation of all seven items. Don't know why the items, subject of this post, were installed ok after failing repeatedly.
