Yes thats the problem there is a choice of over 100 drivers but which ones are they???
If you found and followed the link for your model you should have had the following notice provided on the screen:
Need to know the hardware on your system to choose the right drivers?

Correct except for 1st one - which is for networking and NOT SOUND.LAN Realtek
VGA ATI/AMD
So i assume thats for sound a graphics
Not sure on this. If there is no specific entry for this then it has probably (and normally) been installed from the OEM OS install files.but what about chip sets etc?
If you have any further questions please provide your model details so that your helpers can see what you are seeing as resource file choices.
So out of that long list which ones do i need? the machine is a packard bell imedia 1517 windows xp
I cannot find iMedia I517 at this link:

Are we using the same site for driver updates?:
Desktop > iMedia > ? (PT.U??)
Do you have the following vendor devices listed in ‘device manager?’:
LAN Realtek (network adapters)
VGA ATI/AMD (display adapters)
Is your PC currently operational? Do you appear to missing any functionality?
NOTE: You do realize that subsequently getting all 100+ critical updates installed is not now easily achieved without slipstreaming (not available in your circumstances without installation CD). That makes what you are trying to achieve significantly insecure online and accordingly a suboptimal result.
