    Workaround:

Use the System Configuration Utility to disable the Dumprep.exe tool
1.Click Start, click Run, type msconfig in the Open box, and then click OK.
    2.Click the Startup tab.
3.Click to clear the dumprep 0 -k or dumprep 0 -u check box, and then click OK.
    4.Restart the computer.

    SEE:
The Windows XP-based computer may run slowly and you may receive Dumprep.exe error messages

I appreciate your reply, however if you read the attachment you will see that
    Windows cannot find dumprep.exe
so it is not showing in Msconfig. If you read where I received help at NnW I have already pointed this out there.

The Microsoft link you gave does not apply to me as my computer is running perfectly fine, fast, and true. My only issue is the attachment showing on boot over the top of Erunt registry backup

Thanks for replying just the same, perhaps others may be able to assist.

    kind regards,

    Hi talin

In the previous post on this when it was suggested you copy the file from your XP CD you said
I did as you said, but Windows32 already has 'dumrep.exe within it so I give up.
That file maybe corrupt so copying the file and allowing it to replace the one already there may cure the problem.

dumprep.exe is a non-essential system process so have you thought of disabling it?
This may prevent the annoying popup at startup
There's an how to on this here What is dumprep.exe? Why is KernelFaultCheck dumprep 0 -k in MSCONFIG Startup? | Raymond.CC Blog

    Hope that helps

I replaced the file as stated in my NnW link but it made no difference.

The 'Raymond blog' does not refer to my issue although I did check the settings again in Control panel/settings, and they are set as the blog states they should be.

I thank you Jim for your effort in replying, but so far as Windows can't find dumprep.exe on start up I have no fix so far to stop that popup on boot

By the way, the Laptop is running well as stated so it is only out of sheer determination I want to stop that popup on boot..

    kind regards,

Hi Tallin, long time since I've seen your name in a forum. Hope all is well.

If you look at the error message, it has a malformed path:

    C:\Windows%\system32\dumprep 0 -K

I suspect there is a problem in the registry or environment variable. Look at the windir and SystemRoot environment variables, make sure they are correct. Should be: C:\Windows for both.

Might be worth while to open a Command Prompt and type set and see what all the variables are. Maybe something will look odd to you.

Take a good look at the output of the path variable.

Can you see it with AutoRuns for Windows.

Do you get the error when you boot into Safe Mode?

    Thanks for your assistance Digerati.

No, I cannot find in Autoruns.

I can in System32 as this link shows

Safe Mode I have not tried yet.

    kind regards,

Tallin, while in AutoRuns, click on the Everything tab then press Ctrl+f and search for dumprep. Better than trying to eyeball it.

Thanks Rich, no joy, to quote "Cannot find string "dumprep."

    regards,
