    Power saving mode

I have a HP Pavilion 6470z. When I try to boot up it won't come on. When it does decide to it shuts back down and says power saving mode on the monitor. I have a brand new data cable and power cord. This also happens after I do get it booted up and shut it bak down it goes back into power saving mode and may not boot back up for a day or two. I bought it new 1995 and upgraded it to Windows home XP about ten years ago.

Help. How do I get it to boot up and then change the setting if needed.

    Hi robeg1 Welcome to D.A.L

Bought in 1995 and still running. You've certainly had your moneys worth from that PC

There could be a number of reasons for this from an intermittent/faulty PSU, faulty ram, hard drive or other hardware problems. It could also be a corrupt system file.
So it would be best to try and eliminate a few of those possibilities.

I assume you still have the XP installation disk.
Assuming your bios boot sequence is set to start from the CD/DVD before your hard drive.
Start your PC with the XP installation disc in the CD/DVD drive.
If you PC will start using this with no problems it could rule out an intermittently faulty PSU.
You can also test your hardrive by booting into the recovery console using your install disc.
Detailed explanation of how to do that can be found here: Follow these instructions carefully otherwise you could start a fresh install of Windows XP

If you have access to another PC or whilst the PC is running you could download Memtest86 for a cd or floppy from here:
    Memtest86 - Download Page
Create a bootable floppy or bootable CD and test you don't have faulty memory.
A tutorial for Memtest can be found here Using Memtest to test computer memory
It could take sometime to run this test so be patient.
If you can get the PC started you could run SFC /scannow and check there are no errors in your system file.
How to use SFC can be found here scannow sfc - LEARN how to use SFC.EXE (system file checker)
Again this will take some time to do and there will be not report at the end of the test.
If it finds any corrupt/faulty system file it will repair them. You may need your installation
disk in the CD/DVD drive whist running this test.

Please post back and let us know if you need further help with any of the above
