64 bit os in core 2 duo
Hi....
Can I set up the 64 bit win xp pro in my core 2 duo 1.86gig cpu?

You first need to check all your hardware devices (motherboard, graphics cards, and any added device) and make sure there are 64-bit XP drivers available. If no drivers, then no.

Hi This is my grafic card and motherboard details:::
NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS

Motherboard
Manufacturer: Intel Corporation
Model: D946GZIS (vAAD66165-301)

In general, manufacturers weren't very supportive of XP 64-bit but they got better starting with Vista. When I tried xp 64-bit I didn't have any success with it due to the lack of drivers. Why do you want XP 64-bit? Unless you have an insane amount of ram there really isn't any advantage to using it. You might consider 7 64-bit because it is modern, more secure, and has been driver support. That's my recommendation.

I agree with townsbg. Not sure why you posted your card and motherboard. You need to visit all the sites for all your hardware and download 64-bit drivers - if they have them. We can't do for you.

Thank you boss....I found my answer...looked for driver support..it supports 64 bit...but will consider your advice for upgrading to ram...I thought 64 bit OS are much faster than 32 bit and more over i have some soft wares supporting 64 bit..so I wanted to check for some changes is the OS..ofcourse a faster OS...Thanks for the reply..have nice time..You guys are doing great job...

64-bit has the potential to be faster, but just because something is 64-bit does not automatically make it faster.
But still, to run a 64-bit operating system, ALL the hardware must support 64-bit too, not just the motherboard, or CPU.

Why would you rather prefer XP over 7? XP is ancient.

I am using 2 systems ... win 7 64bit and xp.

Personally I would just abandon 7 unless you have ancient applications that won't run on 7. However it is your money so if you want to spend it on xp 64-bit that's up to you. You probably won't see a notable difference over the 32-bit version.
