After Reformat DVD drives No Video.
Just reformatted xp home,have installed original disks that came with computer. I find that both DVD drives have no Video, if i click on a vob file i get audio only using VLC. In device manager i have yellow marks against Multimedia controller and Multimedia Video Controller. I think this could be the problem but i do not no how to fix.

Playing DVD movies requires the necessary codecs. Did you install them after you formatted? That's one reason reformatting and reinstalling should be avoided - it wipes out all your drivers, add-ons, and potentially years of critical security updates.
Clearly we need some neutral information on this.

VLC comes with its own codecs i believe and i have used it previously with no problem. I did load a set of codecs, no difference. I have just loaded PowerDVD and this plays dvd and cd OK, VLC remains blank when disc is selected. Right click on no 1 drive i get the full 4.36 gb showing up,selecting VLC the time pointer goes hard to the right and stays there. selecting Power DVD all OK, selecting WMP is OK.
Right click on drive 2 i get nothing showing in gbs and nothing runs. So i am a lot better of at least i can play DVDs with no1 drive.

Don't know. Never used VLC. But the fact it works with Power DVD indicates it is not a problem with the drives, or Windows.

This should work (as long as your optical drive(s) are indeed good and operational);
