I am not going to speak as to the performance of Linux versus Windows; really that is something you should experiment with. However, pertaining xp, I'm convinced that the 128 mb should be just for windows. Of course you start factoring in software and it will really slow down with only 160 mb. 128 mb might have been fine 9 years ago when XP came out but the system resources of third party programs has for the most part gone up since then (also many love to run all of the time). Because of that I would not put XP on a system with anything less than 512 mb and preferably 1 gb or more. 768 mb should be fine for light computer usage. Really all these questions are reletive to what you do the most on your system.
