I bought an external hard drive, and plugged it into my XP machine. The computer does not see it, will not develop drivers for it, or whatever. Is an XP machine not able to see USB3? It says device has malfunctioned. What to do?

Have you entered the machines BIOS Setup and ensured all USB related elements are enabled?

Do you mean my computer's BIOS setup? Don't know how to do that.The external HD is a Western Digital My Book Essentials. Its a 2 TB drive.
