    Wi-Fi Problems

For various reasons following an attempt to load SP2, I was force to go for a complete rebuild to XP Proffesional SP1. Everything is working satisfactrily apart from the WI-FI. XP just can't see it (onboard INTEL pro/wireless 2100).

I believe I require a file called XPFIX.EXE to realign the Wi-Fi to XP.

The PCServicecall page for my hardware shows a MSConfig startup list showing this program.

    MS Config Startup List

    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run QKeys
    C:\program files\qkeys\QKeys.exe

    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run XPFix

    C:\Program Files\wireless 11mbps network\XPFix.exe

I need a copy of this file - can any one help please

links i found but not that particular file.

    Intel® PRO/Wireless 2100 network technology

    Intel PROSet Utility

    Intel

My thought was maybe that PROSet Utility might contain what you need.

Otherwise I wonder if the problems that led to the re-install of XP had anything to do with what is ongoing?

Did you do a Clean Install of XP? then added sp1?

Also Everest Home might give you some error info on the chip. Whether or not the BIOS sees it. etc.

Thanks for your help jephree. I haveno reason to think that thr BIOS (AMD 1.3) can't see the wi-fi and now have a bit of a mind set about this missing file.

The XP Device Manager reports a 'Network Controller' under other devices but then steadfastly refuses to identify it on the attempt to install drivers.

I have downloaded the latest Intel Drivers for the device, but they do not install correctly, presumably because they cannot detect the device either.

    I'll keep looking

    Thanks again

Mainly for jephrees attention - I eventually found a wi-fi driver on the Gemtek website that XP loaded. found by looking at someone's Ad-Aware log that showed XPFix and Identified the Wi-Fi as Gemtek.

    It's amazin' whats out there
    Thanks for your help
