regardless of which key I type, numbers appear; I have switched keyboards, same result.

This is due to the fact that the digital lock is activated. To solve this, simply press the Fn+Numlk or depending of the model, press the button or Fn + Shift +Numlk

hehe - or it might because someone is messing with you. Its a good prank.

I just found out what the problem was, (I do not have laptop); the issue was with Comcast "Constant Guard" software they just came out with; other people have has identical issues with this software: I notified Comcast; good rule here, do not use this until they get the bugs out
