HP Deskjet 970 Cxi and Windows XP
Folks,
until recently I have refilled ink cartridges on the above printer with third party ink without problems. Since installing an updated driver the printer seems to "know" that I am trying to refill the cartridge and refuses to print stating "colour cartridge ink low" and "black cartridge ink low" and displaying a flashing yellow light. Are the latest ink cartridges chipped and if so how do the refilling companies who sell reprocessed cartridges get around this problem. If HP cartridges were a more reasonable price I wouldn't bother but the large colour cartridge is now £48 which is dearer than a 70 year old malt whisky ! Does anybody have a simple fix or know a link which can help?
best regards,
El Dimmo.

I don't know the answer. This is certainly a long time problem. The printer makers insist you should only use their ink, and the 3rd party ink people insist their ink is just as good. All I know is original cartridges work for me when refills (from reputable places like OfficeMax and Stables) didn't.
A friend says he buys a new set of genuine cartridges after 3 refills. Otherwise, the refilled cartridges stop working.

Digerati,
Thanks for the rapid response. I gather from some other sources that removing the printer battery and then replacing it can work but I don't even know if I have a battery in my printer.
The third party ink that I have used appears to easily be equal to HP's own,
