wireless pci card causing xp machine to reboot when conecting to network

My xp machine was rebooting at startup every time it got to the login screen. I used the xp CD and ran chkdsk \r but it didn't help so I reformatted the drive and reinstalled windows. I loaded the drivers for my linksys wireless pci card, my computer sees the network but every time I try to connect, my computer reboots.
Could this possibly be a memory problem or something else?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried the latest driver for the linksys wireless card? What is it's model number?

Do you see a blue screen before it reboots?

Turn of Automatic restart so if a blue screen occurs you can record the information to post here.

    Right click on My Computer.
Click Properties / Advanced / Startup and Recovery Settings.
    Uncheck box for "Automatically restart".

I'm not at the computer right now (it's my mom's) so I can't tell you the model number until tomorrow. However there is no blue screen when it reboots.
I just found out that she had a one minute power outage yesterday while the computer was on. After the power outage it would reboot at start up, right when it got to the log on screen (she had it password protected).
Now, after formatting and reinstalling XP Pro svc pac 3, it reboots as soon as I try to connect to the wireless router. It seems like as soon as I try to use even a little of the system resources that it reboots which leads me to believe that maybe the memory was damaged somehow when the power went out. That seems strange though since it wasn't a lighting strike or anything, the power just went off and there is a surge protector.
When I go over there tomorrow I'll down load the newest driver using my laptop, put it on a memory stick and install it on her computer.
Thanks so much for taking interest in this problem. I'll let you know what happens tomorrow.

    You can test the memory:

Download Memtest86+ (you want the 2nd one Download - Pre-Compiled Bootable ISO (.zip)). Unzip it then create a CD from the iso file using your CD burning software. There is a good freeware burner called ImgBurn which will do this easily.

Boot the CD and run for at least 3 complete passes unless it shows errors sooner than that.

    Hi Ztruker,
I'm now pretty sure it's not the memory, everything works except the Linksys PCI wireless adapter. It's model WMP11 (the first one in that series)
I downloaded the latest driver from linksys, uninstalled the device, reinstalled using the new driver. Same thing happened though.
I disabled automatic reboot as you suggested.
Everything looks great, the adapter is active and working properly in device manager and the wireless network icon appears in the tray but when you go to connect to the network, right about the time you go to enter the WEP key the blue screen pops up (since I disabled auto reboot) this is what it says.

    STOP: 0X000000D1 (0X00000002, 0X00000000, 0XF73BE6D9)

    LSIPNDS.SYS-Address F73BE6D9 base at F73B6000, DateStamp 3ef91459

It also says to try to disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing but I can't figure out how to get there. (I'm pressing F8 at boot up and I'm pretty sure that takes me to BIOS but once there I'm not sure what to do.

I'm about ready to just go buy a new wireless card but I don't feel like I should have to and somehow I think this would just happen with a new card as well. If I didn't just reinstall XP I'd try that again but I don't think that would do any good either.
And I agree with you, I like IMGburn also and use it all the time.
This is very frustrating for me as I can usually get stuff like this to work.
Thanks and please let me know if you have any other ideas.
    Rob

Best thing to do is replace the wireless PCI card.

Yeah, I came to that conclusion myself earlier today.
    Thanks for your help.
