ip address locked
My IP address is locked, according to the Hughesnet techs. About a week ago my internet went down. I called Hughesnet and they found a problem with the dish. It had water in it. They came and fixed that problem, but I could still not get back on the internet with my computer. He used his laptop and had no problem, so I called Hughesnet Tech. They tried to solve the issue, but with no luck. They said I needed to use my operating system disk and then reinstall my drivers, which I did. Called Dell, they helped me with that, but I was still not able to add the correct ip address. I called Hughesnet back, they tried again with no luck. They told me my ip address was locked and I needed to contact a computer technician. I have WIndows XP Professional. Can anyone help me?

It would be good to know what Hughesnet had you try the second time around. I don't know what they mean by locked unless they mean you have set your notebook up with the wrong (old) "static" IP and it needs a new one (either statically/manually assigned or dynamically via DHCP - see The Difference Between Static and Dynamic IP Addresses - Networking Computer Tips).

Thank you for the response. What they told me was the ip stack is locked. I misquoted in my first reponse. Can you help me with this?

I am afraid that does not help me either. Perhaps someone else reading is familiar with the term, IP Stack, in this sense. To me, it refers to the TCP/IP Protocol, but I don't see how it can be stacked.
Have you tried to renew the IP address? See Release and Renew IP Addresses on Windows XP | 2000 | NT

Try the WinsockXPFix, see if that resets the "IP Stack".

I assumed Hughes or Dell would have suggested that - that was probably stupid of me. Thanks Rich.
