Help Please - Windows XP Shutting down during boot
Friends if you can help me I will be very grateful. I have a sister with a husband dying of Carcinoid Tumors, a very rare cancer of his liver. She uses her computer to do lots of medical research etc. It is an Emachines T5254 bought Feb 2008 with Windows Vista OS.
Wait please - we are getting to Windows XP.
The problem is that she put the recovery disk from an older computer with another operating system in it in this computer and corrupted the system. She has been unable to locate the correct Restore Disk and badly needs her computer in the small rural town that she lives in. So I brought it home, formatted the hard drive and installed Windows XP PRO SP3 on it. I have repeated this over several times but I still have the same problem. It always shuts off during boot up at least 98% of the time. I suspect I need drivers for Windows XP compatible with her computer. Can you advise me how I can locate such drivers? If not is there a way to get another Restore Disk from Emachines with Windows Vista for a fairly small cost? My sisters money has been depleted by medical care for her husband and I was struck by some debilitating health problems a few years ago that have left me disabled and living on a very small Social Security Disability income. Any help offered will be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

eMachines does not provide any XP drivers for that computer, only Vista drivers. See here: Drivers and Downloads

Try the Live Chat, see if they can help you order a replacement Recovery CD. Price is usually $20 or less: Live Chat Support—available seven days a week, from 3 AM to 12 midnight PT

How do I now post this thread as resolved? Or do the administrators do that? Forgive me, I am a real newbie. This was my first post to this GREAT Forum.
