images usually adverts, not being displayed.
Images ,usually adverts are not displayed in firefox, google chrome nor i/e. All i get is a red shape, ie the size of the advert .
ie on this page I have red rectangle just above "post new thread"
This has only occured in the last few days and I have done system resore to the date when I thouhght everything was working ok. This has not cured it.
I am using win xp home sp3 with all MS updates.I have searched the forums but can't find anything similar.
Any ideas please?

It is most likely a security setting. What security software are you using. TeaTimer? Hosts file?

Thanks for your reply. I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials plus Virgin media security pack. Also got malware bytes and spybot.

I never heard of Virgin media security and only found it listed in just one of the 3 labs found about 1/2 down here: http://www.d-a-l.com/help/security-d...computing.html. In any event, you do not need and really should not use two real time anti-malware solutions running at the same time. I use MSE and Windows Firewall.
TeaTimer comes with SpyBot S&D. It dumps tons of sites in your hosts files and restricted zones. I would start there. I found TeaTimer a pain to manage and provided no value for me.

Thanks.
I think I've found the problem. Virgin media package includes an ad blocker. This has apparently just started to work after about a year. I've turned it off and web pages now appear in full.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
So you recommend MSE and windows firewall only? I wasn't sure what MSE covered which is why I installed the Virgin pack. You think I should uninstall this?
Thanks again.

I think if you keep both running in real-time at the same time, you should disable one and keep it for supplemental scanning and use the other real time. Microsoft has done a great job with MSE. I've been using it for about 1 1/2 years with no regrets.
But if you like Virgin, you and practice safe computing as I show in that link. Keep Virgin and disable MSE. I don't see where Virgin has received any great reviews, but I don't see any warnings to avoid it. Remember, the user is always the weakest link in security.
