I do have serious problems when trying to install a driver for my scanner - Epson Perfection V700 - on my desktop. It was installed previous but after a reinstall of XP Pro (SP3) it seems impossible to install it again. Every time I get an errormessage: "Could not copy files. Make sure the target disk is not read-only."

I tried to install the driver when I had disabled almost all programs in the "Autostart" - same problem. I've run a scan disk and also made a defrag - same problem. I've installed many programs on my desktop, both before and after I encountered the problem with the driver for the scanner. There was no problem to install the driver on my laptop (also XP Pro).

I'v chatted with the Epson Support in the UK and they hinted that the problem was in my PC. Since I'm taking care of the family archive I'm most eager to get the scanner working again. Any advices/suggestions how to deal with the situation are therefore very much appreciated.

How are you installing the driver? Ar you using a CD that came with it? If so, try downloading the latest driver from the Epson web site and install that, see what happens. I found it here: Epson Perfection V700 Photo Scanner

I see that you've posted the same thread on at least 2 other sites. Personally, I don't blame you but such a practice is highly discouraged.

After having problems with updating the driver for my scanner - Epson Perfection V700 - I inserted the CD that came with the scanner and by that I got an early version of the driver (2.80E). Then I called a "paid support" here in Sweden - Telia PremiumSupport - and they helped me to udate to the newest version, 3.83E (they used "remote control" of my PC). I noted they used ControlPanel/System...and so on when updating.
