I hope someone can help!
I somehow accidently deleted my soundcard (whilst add/removing files i think)
There is nothing in 'Audio' in My Computer, its all greyed out so I cannot select anything. I also no longer have the installation cd's.
Could someone help? Could I maybe download another from somewhere?
Thanks
Try Start, Control Panel, Sounds, Speech, and Audio Devices, Sounds, and Audio Devices. If this "gets you there", make sure there's is a check mark (in the Volume tab) in the box for "Place volume icon in the taskbar".
Let us know.
Hi, thanks for replying. It's all 'greyed' out, like its blank so I can't select anything or put a check mark in anything
Your best bet is to borrow an XP CD and run sfc.
Click START, RUN, type in:
sfc /purgecache
(This ensures that system files are copied from your Windows installation media, and files which may be infected/damaged with malware, or are corrupted, are not copied from your drive. Some of the files which are restored/replaced may need MS Updates applied. If sfc replaces any such files, you will have to reinstall updates for those files. If you have Automatic Updates active, this will happen automatically.)
Then type in:
sfc /scannow
Have your XP CD handy.
I do not have the XP cd
Do a System Restore to a date before you deleted the file/files: Windows XP System Restore Is Easy to Use
I bit the bullet and did a 'System Restore'......and...... I have volume!!!!!
Thankyou so much for all you help guys - it was much appreciated! xx
Glad you have it fixed.
