    Blue Screen Of Death

    Hello,

My laptop which is about 5-6 years old, has started blue screening more and more frequently! Over the last 6 or 7 weeks I have been seeing the above once every week or so, but put it down mainly to my aging computer.

However, it seems to have started when I started having issues with Norton 2010, failing to update and then reloading the entire program (84mb) before completing its updates successfully.

On Boxing Day when it updated it decided to download Norton Security 2011 and when that completed, it cancelled 410 days of paid for subscription saying it was no longer a valid activation code, and now my system crashes after 10 -20 minutes of being booted.

The fault I am getting is:

    "Page Fault In Nonpaged Area."

Having checked around after a few crashes I set the system not to automatically reboot and below is the error codes for the last two crashes.

    0x000000, 0xFEEAA000, 0x00000000, 0x80467428, 0x00000000

    0x000000, 0xFFADB000, 0x00000000, 0x80467428, 0x00000000

Not sure what I need to do next though!

If someone would be kind enough to help me with this issue I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks and Regards,
    Nick

Use the Norton Removal Tool to get rid of Norton completely. Install Microsoft Security Essentials and run for a bit, see if the problem reoccurs or not. If not, you may chose to stay with MSSE and let Norton corrode peacefully in the bit bucket.

I use MSSE on my computers at home and at work and am very satisfied with the level of protection so far.

I completely agree with Ztruker. Norton was good in the "early days" and I used it (in Win98SE). But after that it seemed to get more bloated and took up system resources, without solving problems. (Personal opinion.) I agree, dump it.

    Hello Ztrucker and Dan!

Thanks for your replies, I removed Norton exactly as you suggested and then downloaded Microsoft Security Essentials.

Once the updates were complete and it had run a clear scan, I went about my normal computer usage without a problem so far. It was also noticeable that things were happening rather quicker!

I really appreciate your help and kindness, as I had no real idea Norton could cause such trouble...

Thanks once again and a Happy New Year to you both!

    Cheers,
    Nick
