Hi, I've got a new laptop computer that has Windows 7 installed and I want to copy the files off of this computer which has Windows xp on it, I have had a look on the internet and found a site called "easyli done" I understand that you need a crossover cable which I have ordered, I have tried to follow the instructions but the pictures it shows are different from what comes up on my computer. Could someone help me please, by the way i'm not very computer literate, Thanks
Since you have Internet access, an easier solution may be to network the two computers via a router then share the folders, or you can use one of the many on-line file storage sites to temporarily upload your files from the XP machine, then download them to the Win7 machine. Using a router also provide a very significant layer of security too and I recommend all Internet users use a router, even if they only have 1 computer.

As far as connecting a crossover cable, it is typically very straight forward. You connect one end to the Ethernet port of computer A and the other end to the Ethernet port of computer B. Beyond that, since you failed to tell us anything about your notebook or PC, we have no clue what they look like or what they support.
Hi Mate, What do you mean "online storage sites"?
Umm, did you follow the link I provided? These are sites on the Internet where you can store your files.Hi Mate, What do you mean "online storage sites"?
Provide a link to the "easily done" site you said you are following please.
Take a look at this: Connect two computers using a crossover cable
Sorry dear but its mentioned here that
This works best if both computers are running this version of Windows or Windows Vista.
So, I think "online storage sites" are better option.
Well I would suggest you to use a an external storage device for this purpose. Make sure u have data recovery software to recover any missing data in between . Stellar Phoenix Windows data recovery software could be one option. Cheap and best
One, your post is borderline advertising.
Two, you don't have to use backup software to move files from one computer to another and in fact for this user I wouldn't recommend it since the versions are so different. I take it that you mean backup software because, unless the files have been deleted, there is no need for recovery software.
