All downloaded files are corrupt and cannot open

I am still stuck with dialup internet, although DSL service is 10 miles from here. I am having severe problems opening programs, loading web pages, etc... I have tried the wise registry cleaner and also advanced windows care but neither have helped. I also tried to download the upgrade windows care but every file I download is corrupt and will not open. I also tried to use a online scan service fixcleaner but that was also corrupt. I want to check into the Hugesnet service but the time out makes that immpossible. I have tried to do a system restore, but this is a Dell computer so that has never worked. Any help would be great.

    Hi gotmsm1

Since you say " I am having severe problems opening programs, loading web pages, etc.."
It would suggest your PC is in need of some maintenance. This is a lengthy subject so I recommend you
run through D-A-L's Cleaning Up And Speeding Up sticky found here : -
    http://www.d-a-l.com/help/spyware-ad...eeding-up.html
It will help to speed up your PC. Which could be all that's required.
If you have any error messages appertaining to your problem this may also help us
    pin point the problem.

    Hope this helps

I have tried several of your suggestions ( some I am afraid to work with ). I was finally able to download the CCleaner, which has helped some. The major problem now is when I do download a file, Norton message appears listing info about the ile, then the file will not open " not a valid win32 application ". I managed to bypass Norton that one time, opened and installed the CCleaner and ran it. I still have the same problem with Norton Antivirus, as it will not allow any downloaded files to run or open.
I tried their solution of copy to clipboard, then run but that still had the error not a valid win32 application. I would like to find a different antivirus program that will not driuve me crazy, but downloads are not an option right now. Any suggestions???

There are many free AV and a number of AV suites available to download.

You could use a usb flash drive to download your choice on a friends PC then use it to transfer to your PC
A list of available AV software can be found here Best Free Antivirus Software
