my mouse has started running around the screen all on its own i point it somewhere then off it goes to somewhere else HELP please

Is it a track ball or optical mouse?

Have you cleaned it?

Do you have another mouse you can try?

If not, try removing it in Device Manager, then rebooting the machine. Windows should find it as new hardware and assign fresh drivers for it.

Now that we understand, the mouse pointer on the screen wont select what you require, however it keeps moving around the screen.

Questions:
1. Is it a Laptop or a Desktop that you use?
2. Is it a optical(Wired) or a wireless mouse that you use?

Steps to perform:
1. Please check in device manager to see if the mouse drivers need to be updated.
(Start - Right click "My computer" - select Manage - And then choose DEVICE MANAGER)

2. If the drivers are fine, then unplug the mouse and reconnect it in a different port and check if it works.
