Desktop icon text background no longer transparent *solved*

You know, the background of the text below each desktop icon is no longer transparent.

Understand that I've read through - no exaggeration - tens of other forum threads, and none of the suggestions have worked. I have:

My comp Properties > Advanced > Performance > Custom Visual Effect > checked "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop" (toggled as well)

CP > Display > Desktop > Customise Desktop > Made sure no web options are checked. (toggled as well)

Checked the registry for HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explorer
key "NoActiveDesktop". The key doesnt exist, so I created and changed to '0', rebooted - didnt work

"Lock Web Items on Desktop" is not ticked

    Anything else I should try?

Whilst I'm not losing any sleep over this, it would be lovely to get back to transparency Ta very muchly for anything that further delays me from pulling the last few hairs on my head.

When did this start? Try doing a System Restore to before then, see if that fixes it.

Ah well, related to another post where I had problems, Im running an install from a ghost image. The thing is, when I made the ghost image, this problem wasnt there. When I restored the image (about 1.5 weeks ago now, the problem with the icon backgrounds was there. I could try to restore the image again, but it means I have to sift through and find all the docs that have been updated, and also I have made quite a few new changes to some software settings that I would lose. So yeah, I cant restore and would like to fix this by tweaking settings

What are you using for a Desktop Background? Perhaps what ever you are using is causing the problem? What happens if you try it with none?

So this morning I turned the PC back on after my daughter decided to close it down, and lo and behold, the icon background is transparent!

I did forget to previously mention that I had tried converting my desktop to different types of images as I read this could invoke the active desktop, and I tried removing the desktop image altogether, but none of that worked. I guess it's all irrelevant now though..
