    NTLDR is missing

I was given a tabelt. A HP TC1100. It has Ubunto on it which i dont want.
It has no dvd drive or floppy and i'm basically trying to install Win XP from usb flash stick.

I used WinTOFlash to set up the usb stick (16gb) from an iso image of windows xp.

I went into the bios of the tablet set boot priority to usb stick first.
I get the error NTLDR is missing, press any key which does nothing.

    Can anybody help?

Try the flash drive on another computer, see if you can boot it there. It's quite likely it is not bootable as making a bootable XP flash drive takes a bit of work.

If it will boot on another computer, then see if there is a Fn key you can press at boot time on the tablet to get a boot selection screen and select the flash drive from there.

I have a pc and laptop and neither of them has the option in the bios to boot from usb like the tablet does.

So cant test it in that way. If i plug the stick into my pc, the windows xp installation screen comes up.
I looked on the stick and it looks like it has all neccesary files i.e. boot.ini, ntdetect.com, ntldr etc.

The wintoflash tool in supposed to create a bootable flash drive to install windows without a disk.

Are there any other such tools i can maybe try instead?

Not really. WinToFlash is pretty good. I've used it successfully a few times. Any chance you could try booting it on a friends computer? Don't actually do the install, just see if it will boot.

Might try it again following these directions, see if it makes any difference: http://komku.blogspot.com/2009/09/wi...indows-xp.html

Now do you have the image of the installation files on the USB drive? It must be the files as the computer won't be able to read an image which would explain the bootloader error.

Also, where did you get the copy of XP? Is it a retail copy (such as what you would get in a store) or is it from a manufacturer such as dell? Copies from a manufacturer can only be used on their computers. Otherwise not only are there legal issues but a copy from a manufacturer is designed to go only on those computers other wise you will have driver conflicts. Sometimes a check will be built into the installation files that will only allow you to install it on the correct computer.

I did not copy the iso image to the flash stick, wintoflash creates all files and folders from the image. i.e. win_NT folder with system 32, boot.ini etc.

I downloaded my copy of windows xp pro with sp3 (iso image) from the msdn accademic alliance website which is 100% legal with a working key.

Have you tried putting the files on there again using the program or manually extracting the files yourself using software such as WinRar? Do you have other files on there (I don't know if that would make a difference).

You might want to check out this: Windows XP USB install Skarh

Make sure that you download the xp divers otherwise you won't be able to do much especially with XP (7 & Vista have more drivers built in).
