    Computer wouldn't stop restarting

Hi, its been awhile since I have been here. Today I tried to boot my computer and it would get to the desktop and restart. It did that a few times and then I did a start with last good config. I then did a spybot scan and a full scan with avast and nothing bad came up, they were clean. I do seem to have the dump log. (I hope its always the last one from the time of the bad loading) let me know if you need that. Earlier today I installed an expansion for sims 2. While I tried to do that my CD was not being registered when I go to my computer. After I restarted a few times it finally showed. But after I had installed the game there was an error message from EReg.exe. I'm thinking that that is just for registering, but it seems that there was a small problem last time I installed a different expansion and had the same error. I hope I'm not being confusing. In the dump it mentions something about symbols and flash6. I'm pretty frustrated. If its nothing to do with my hijackthis log and is more about the hard drive i'm gonna scream lol. This is my 3rd hard drive in a very short time. Here is my log. Thanks for any help.

(oh i have hijackthis on my desktop, where am i supposed to put it? I know its not supposed to be on my desktop)
(Also I went to look in my event viewer and for system and application it says that the event log file is corrupt. and it looks like 6 minutes after I tried to boot my puter when it started all this tonight there was a failed audit in security.. not that that prolly has anything to do with it but thought just in case to err on too much info lol.)

IPSec Services: IPSec Services has experienced a critical failure and has shut down with error code (615): The network connection was aborted by the local system.
. Stopped IPSec Services can be a potential security hazard to the machine. Please contact your machine administrator to re-start the service.

I guess it was moved here because the hijackthis log was ok? Well my computer won't let me boot to screen now (it gets there but immediately restarts). It seems strange.. its like it gets loaded but then something is preventing it from going any further. I was going to try to do the config but it just keep restarting. It will let me go to safe mode but it won't do the start from last good config.

Try running chkdsk from Recovery Console.

You are going to have to get into BIOS Setup on your computer to set the CD/DVD drive as the first bootable device, so you can then boot your XP CD.

How you do this varies with each manufacturer. Normally you press F1, F2, F10 or Del when you see the manufacturers logo. Often there is a clue somewhere on the screen when you boot normally telling you what key to press. Some computers (most newer ones) have a key you can press (often F12) to bring up the Boot Menu from where you can select the CD/DVD drive to boot from.

If you don't have an XP CD, download and create a bootable CD from the .iso file XP Recovery Console

You don't burn the iso file itself to CD., you create a CD from the iso file using your CD burning software. There is a good freeware burner called ImgBurn which will
    do this.

Boot the CD and at the first opportunity, enter R to start the Recovery Console.
Next, choose which XP installation you want to login to. Normally this will be 1.
Lastly you will be asked for the Administrator password. Just press the Enter key as the Administrator does not have a password (unless you gave it one, then you would enter it).
From the command prompt, enter: chkdsk c: /r
Allow it to complete undisturbed. It can take an hour or more depending on the size of the hard drive.

Remove the CD, type exit and the computer will reboot. Hopefully that will have fixed the problem (corrupted file system).

is that the place where you can choose safe mode, last good config and so on? If I remember correctly it also said bios but I wanted to make sure that its with safe mode option.

    nvm got it lol

    hi,

ok I did the chk and it said it fixed some items but its still continuing to restart. when it did restart it had a bunch of winlogon errors that popped up. It had another error but it restarted too fast for me to see what it was.

Do you have an XP installation CD? If so, boot to Safe Mode. Put the XP CD in the drive, then enter sfc /scannow.

That will check for damaged or missing system files and replace them as needed from the XP CD. Try that, see if it helps.

If not, follow the directions here to create a new account and copy all your user data over to it:

How to copy data from a corrupted user profile to a new profile in Windows XP

Or follow these directions posted in GeeksToGo.com
    • Boot to Safe Mode, login as Administrator
    • Show all files by opening My Computer, Tools menu, View tab, check Show Hidden Files/Folders then uncheck Hide extensions for known filetypes and Hide protected operating system files [Recommended]. Click Apply then OK.
    • Create a new Administrator level account via Control Panel / User Accounts.. Pick a good name as you will be keeping it.
    • Reboot the computer.
    • Login with the new account so the folder structure under Documents and Settings gets created, then log off.
    • Boot to Safe Mode, login as Administrator
    • Browse to c:\documents and settings\OldUserAccount
    • Select everything in that folder, including sub folders, except the three files called ntuser.dat, ntuser.dat.log, and ntuser.ini.
    • Copy all those files into c:\documents and settings\NewUserAccount. Reply Yes or Yes to all when duplicate folders or files are found.
    • Reboot the computer and login with your New user account.
Once you confirm that all your documents are located in My Documents of the New user, you can delete the old profile.

omg I'm so sorry I haven't posted back. I really thought I did. Think I'm losing my mind or something o.O

We took my puter in and they said that it was working fine.. which I was at that point thinking my puter was only showing me its bad side lol. But after we decided to get a better motherboard they found that the cylinder was bulging. They said that could have been causing the problem. Thank you Very much for helping me. I still can't believe I didn't write you sooner. It must have been a very convincing dream I had o.O
now I'm just getting used to windows 7 instead of xp lol.

Cylinder = capacitor = bulging = bad! New motherboard definitely required. Glad you got it working.

The Windows Automatic Updates feature is great, however those nagging reboot reminders can drive you crazy. I can only recommend to turn this off.

Usually, this restart now/restart later pop up appears when I am doing something important or when I have some remote connections open. I also like it if Windows rebooted automatically during my lunch break while several virtual machines are running.

In my view this feature doesn’t bring in extra security. All these pop up windows warning about security issues are more or less useless. People get used to them, and click on them automatically. In this way these pop-ups might even decrease security. If there ever is an important security message, the user will just click away without really reading it because he is trained to do so.

Seems a virus problem, have seen many other computers with the same problem.
Those PC restarts once click on the user login tab and may just seen the desktop icons.
    Restarts and again and again.

The only solution is reinstall the OS.
May consider to slave the HDD and back up the files first before the reinstall.

    Hope this helps!
