Need more information.
What is the make and model of the computer?
PS2, USB or Wireless keyboard?
Did it ever work? If yes, when did it stop working? What did you do around that time as far as adding or removing hardware or software?
Consider not using Sleep or Hibernate, but instead use the power settings of Desktop Screensaver. This is what I do with all Desktop systems as they are really not designed for sleep/hibeernate like a Laptop is.
If you have a Laptop then it should work and perhaps a System Restore to a time when it was working will fix the problem.

Its an Hp, umm i cant remember the model of the motherboard, its an older computer 500 mhz, i just use it for recording my music an jamming with, which is frustrating when the frickin keyboard doesnt work cuz thats how i control alot of the quick use functions of my music software, ill look into other power management options but i really liked the hibernate option thats so rad, especially the quick boot and non power usage, unlike sleep with the fans running still,

So it did work at one time? If so did you update any device drivers or did you allow Windows Update to update any? Did you add any new hardware?
Try a different keyboard? There are other ways to put the computer into hibernate. One easy one would be to create a new desktop shortcut that runs C:\Windows\System32\shutdown.exe /h. Might be able to program a Windows hotkey to do this as well.
