I just recently bought a HP Pavilion 533W computer running XP Home with service pack 2.
When you right click "My Computer" and then "properties", I get a screen that in the lower left corner has a box that is labeled "Manufactured and Supported By".
When I click on the support information tab another screen opens without any support information but with obscene comments.
How do I remove these comments?
Your help and advice will be appreciated.
...but with obscene comments.Wow! That's no good. I assume this was a used computer from a private person and not a store? If a store, take it back and make a scene about it. I am sure, if a decent place, they will be embarrassed and take care of it immediately. If from a private person, download and run MS PowerToy, TweakUI. There's an option there to edit that out.
Thanks for the quick response.
This was a garage sale purchase.
I downloaded the software but I could not find the option that you mentioned. I am sure that I have just overlooked it.
I hate to waste your time but if you could point me to the option I will greatly appreciate it.
Thanks again
David
Hmmm, my mistake. I thought for sure it was in TweakUI. I was trying to make it so you would not have to edit the Registry manually - which you can do by following this Microsoft KB article: How to Change Name and Company Information After You Install Windows XP
So, you can do it manually as above, or you can use X-Setup V6.6. The section you want to change, or just blank out is called OEM Information. This program is much more powerful than TweakUI and while changing the OEM Information will not hurt anything, there are other settings that can. Fortunately, this program is pretty good at warning you about dangerous settings.
Thanks Digerati........
I used the software X-Setup V6.6 to remove the obscene messages.
It is unbelievable what you can do if you know how to do it or know someone that does......
Thanks again......
David
Glad it worked. Thanks for the follow-up.
