Just recently my DVD burner stopped working. Attempting to burn with Windows Media Player will hang or abort and attempting to burn with Nero will hang. I used a utility on Microsoft's site and it claimed my drive is not a recording device. When I look up the properties on the drive the "Recording" tab is available and "enable CD recording on this drive" is checked. I've tried updating the driver but am told the current driver is the best available. Any ideas?

It's possible the drive is now defective. I don't know of any way to test it other than install in a different computer or replace it.
