    iqon lm7w

hi i have a iqon lm7wm laptop and its constantly crashing on me, i tried using the installation cd to do a fresh install but the cd seems to be broke and it left me with no operating system, i put on a fresh install of windows xp insted but the laptop still keeps crashing, was wondering if you could point me in the right direction of getting a new copy of the iqon lm7wm installation cd,

also since i had to format the laptop for the fresh installation of windows xp getting into the hidden partition where you can restore the computer to the factory settings does not work as it seems to have been deleted along with everything else,

if you cant help me with getting the cd then maybe you could help me with getting it to stop crashing, there seems to be a problem with the ntdll.dll, dont know if thats the reason it is crashing but thought id mention it, iv tried downloading the dll and replacing it but it seemed to have made no difference,

any help would be very much appreciated

    Hi cathy87

Could you give us more details (such as error messages) in relation to the ntdll.dll, problem.
Could you also tell us if there are any error messages when the PC crashes? or what happens
    when it crashes.
Could you also right click on My Computer and select Properties. Now select Hardware Tab
and click on Device Manager. Are there any yellow exclamation marks there.
If there are this could mean drivers have not been installed (or are corrupted) for the devices listed.
Could you give us some details on any devices listed. If indeed there are any.
Whilst in System properties could you also click on the Advanced tab.
Then under Startup and Recovery click on the Settings button.
Now under System failure remove the tick from Automatically restart. Exit and restart your PC
to allow the change to take effect.
Now (with the tick removed) when PC crashes if the cause is a BSOD(Blue Screen Of Death) the PC
will display the BSOD with the error message instead of just restarting.
Make a note of the Full Details of the error message and post it here.
The message will assist us in trouble shooting your PC problems.
To restart your PC from a BSOD just press (not to hard) and hold the power up button.
This will shut down your PC. You can then restart in the normal way.

Hi, thanks for getting back to me. I've had this problem with my laptop for months now even after doing fresh installs of Windows XP and I did a fresh install last night. The original reinstallation CD that came with the laptop doesn't register in the laptop anymore so I've had to use a friend's copy. In the beginning when it started to crash i found a program (have no idea what it was called, dont have it anymore either) that searched the laptop for problems and it showed me this error:

    stop:c0000221 unknown hard error \systemroot\system32\ntdll.dll

I did all that for the BSOD, searched for missing drivers but could only find the audio driver. Iqon has gone into liquidation so it made it very hard searching for the drivers. After searching all day for them I let the laptop do automatic updates and it crashed. No BSOD, the laptop just froze completely, it didn't turn off on it's own, mouse wouldn't move, wouldn't do anything. No error messages either.

    The drivers needed are:
Network Controller, PCI Simple Communications Controller and Video Controller VGA Compatible

Would it be worth trying to make a copy of the original reinstallation disc? If so would I have to make it into an ISO file or would it already be an ISO file?

Sorry if some of this doesn't make sense, I'm not very technically minded. Thanks again for your help

OK so I managed to pull the original drivers off the original reinstallation disc and put them onto a different disc and now all the drivers are fixed on the laptop. So, now we know the cd is working (it works in a friends pc but wont work in my laptop so i cant use it but my disc drive is definitly working because it recognises other discs) but is there a way to make a copy of the original onto a better disc?

sorry for repeating myself, just wanting to keep ye up to date with things

    Hi Cathy

The STOP: 0xC0000221 unknown hard error C:\Winnt\System32\Ntdll.dll.
Occurs if you install an inappropriate driver for your hardware.
"STOP: C0000221 unknown hard error" or "STOP: C0000221 STATUS_IMAGE_CHECKSUM_MISMATCH" error message occurs
The Network Controller, PCI Simple Communications Controller and Video Controller VGA Compatible
Drivers that you need are usually on the motherboard drivers disc.
You asked "is there a way to make a copy of the original onto a better disc?"
Since the backup partition of your laptop has been removed the need to make a full backup of the
Original CD is pointless. If you just copy all the drivers you need for the laptop to a CD/DVD R or RW
You will have a backup of your drivers on a CD/DVD you could use on your laptop.
You could find out the model Number of your motherboard.
So can you download and install. SIW - System Information for Windows found here.
SIW | System Information for Windows by Gabriel Topala
Click on the green Download SIW link for the freeware version.
Once installed and run go down to the Hardware section and click on Motherboard.
In the righthand pane there's the information we need.
The, Manufacturer, Model and Serial Number
You could then go to the motherboard manufactures website locate the correct chipset drivers for your PC.
Could also use SIW to locate the name of any other driver (such as sound) you may need.
Once you have downloaded all the correct drivers copy them to the CD/DVD and you have the tools
to do a reinstall of your laptop should you need to.

Once you have the laptop running smoothly you could create a slimstream disc
How to on this here http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase...slipstream.asp
Once the disc is made this will allow you to do a reinstall without the need for
a lengthy download of windows updates after a reinstall.

    Hi Cathy

To get your motherboard chipset drivers go to here VIA Drivers Download - VIA Technologies, Inc.
Once on the Web page select these options
    Step 1 Microsoft Windows
    Step 2 Windows XP
Step 3 Hyperion Pro (4in1) chipset drivers
Step 4 Select your Via product is already selected

Once completed you are automatically taken to the drivers page
On that page you will see your North Bridge VIA P4M800 Pro listed (row 11) in the Notes section
If you click on Download version 5.24A
    The chipset drivers will download
This download is a zip file so if unzip the file to desktop you will
have a new folder called VIA_HyperionPro_V524A
This contains all the drivers for your laptop chipset.
If you copy this file to CD/DVD you have permanent copy of your chipset drivers.
If you go to FIC website here http://www.fic.com.tw/download/motherboards.aspx
Go down to PTM800Pro LF all the drivers for you Laptop are there the chipset drivers there
are the older version of the ones I suggest you download.
The Raid,Video,Audio and Lan drivers are all there
