Smile Add custom sound to an event

    Hi everyone,

I know there is a method of adding a sound to an event through the Windows Control Panel.

However, how do you add a sound, say for example, "I'll be back" to an event that is not listed in the event list in the control anel aplet. Let's say I want to assign I'll be back to the closing of a word document?

I have seen a method on-line that involves adding keys in HKEY_Current_User_App_Events but I doesn't work for me.

Is it me or could it be another problem like that method not working in XP Home or because I do not have a dedicated sound card?

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks

Unless you are very experienced, please be very careful accessing or changing your registry settings. Here you will find the answer to your question.

    Hi tallin,

Thanks for the link to those instructions.

However, that procedure specifies that you select a system event from the program events list. The program events list on my computer does not have an entry for opening Word, Excel, etc. Those are the "events" I want to assign a sound to.

Perhaps opening Word, for example, is not considered a "system event" and therefore cannot be added to the program events list.

See the last post in this thread: Windows XP: Possible to Add Custom System Events ???

    The key mentioned is: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents\Schemes\Apps
