I take it you've checked the power leads and power plugs are OK.
Since you say you "don't really know much about this computer stuff" I feel
you have no alternative but to take it to your Local Computer Technician and let
them check out.
HP compaq presario v6000 have had problems of this nature in the past

Hi...Jim,
In my last reply I indicated that "I don't know much about this computer stuff"...I am pretty sure I did not indicate that "I am a complete idiot".
Yes i have made sure the power cords and such work. This is a known issue with Hp.As I said I am about 1 month out of the "free" repair and HP says "unfortunately there is nothing we can do for you".
I would love to take it to a fix it guy but unfortunately times are hard.I do appreciate your attempt to "help".Thankyou for your time.
HP is trying to pull the wool over your eyes telling you the above in quotes if your computer has the paperwork to show it is within the warranty period....This is a known issue with Hp.As I said I am about 1 month out of the "free" repair and HP says "unfortunately there is nothing we can do for you".
Here in OZ (Australia) we have a Department of Fair Trading which pulls those big companies into line when they try to bluff the consumer.
My advice, take it to wherever the warranty is accessed and demand that it be looked at immediately.
What shop did you buy it from? Also go there and make a fuss to get service. Let us know how you get on please.
kind regards,
There was no intention to imply you were "a complete idiot".
The only way to resolve issue through forums like this is to start with the obvious and move to the complicated.
Sometimes people overlook the obvious.
If Talin's advice (which is well worth a try) gets no results.
There's a long discussion and advice on how you could possibly resolve it here : -

In one section you are advised to Try re-inserting the RAM (memory modules)
There is a how to by HP on this here
How to Upgrade and Install RAM Memory Compaq Presario V6000AU Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)
How ever it does say at the end "If this doesn't work, then your motherboard or your RAM (and maybe display too) is damaged. You need to get it repaired or replaced".
Hope that helps.
