Well I'm about to just give up and use Windows 7 and then reinstall XP for my games and such I'm creating a backup image right now hopefully you can give me some insight on how to fix this problem.
some things I've tried after googling my errors:
netsh command reset tcp/ip settings to defaul
reset winsock settings to default
it shows the internet is connected but it still doesn't load web pages or login to router (it no longer says limited connectivity)
We could try to WinSockFix
An explanation of this and a download link can be found here : -
Using WinSockFix to Fix Windows XP Networking Problem
It will make changes on your registry in order to fix the winsock and network errors. The program can create a registry backup of your current registry settings, so it is quite safe to use.
But it wouldn't hurt to make your own backup
Go to run and type regedit
In regedit go to File and select Export
In the box that opens up give the file a name such before WinsockFix
and save in a place you can easily locate.
You know have your own Registry backup should you need it

alright I've tried the tool you suggested but my backup is not complete yet it's on 80% so I cannot reboot yet. I will post back as soon as it finishes.
when I type ip config I get 169.254.178.149
