I recently purchased a new set of spaekers for my Emachines comp with xp and when i plug it in corectly the sound and audio does not work as well as system sounds.

I reinstalled my operating system now i cant get my cd rom to play sound...i have searched high and low for drivers for the model..cd rom no luck ..and out of all the drivers..i couldnt tell which ones i should down load...so i have been down loading drivers of every kind hoping that they will get me sound..the pc does have the preprogramed sounds comming from the speakers but the cd will read the cd's media player will come up you can see the progress bar going across the screen showing that it is playing but i get no sound...i have checked the wires every thing is seated..like i said the pc will make the default sounds...and music but nothing out of the cd rom...the model cd rom is a ltn403 compaq
the pc is a asus pentium 4 , 256 ram.. The sound card is a creative techology ltd, model ct5806 , windows xp service pack 3..

Your RAM is very low, you really need to upgrade it. You need at least 2GB if possible to run your OS. Please go here and scan your system for the correct RAM.
You can run this tool to find the drivers you need, I would not download or install them from it...always go to your manufacturers website for any hardware downloads. DriverMax however is a good information tool for you.
Are your Windows Updates current? Please never download hardware from Windows Update link, again go to your manufacturers website.

Open My Computer and right click on the CD drive and select Properties.
Click on the Hardware tab then select your CD drive from the list and click on Properties.
There is a check box at the bottom next to Enable digital CD audio for this CD-ROM device.
If it's checked, uncheck it. If it's unchecked, check it then click OK as needed to exit all windows. Try it now. If no go, reboot and try it again.
