Go to Run and type CMD

In that window Type chkdsk C: /f were C: is the drive letter you wish to check change
to appropriate letter if different note the space between : /

    If you get the message:
Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)

    Type Y for yes

    Then restart your PC.

Alternatively if your antivirus or anti-spyware software is conflicting with the Chkdsk process.

Set your system to safe mode with the "/SAFEBOOT" command from the MSCONFIG program. Click "Start" and "Run." Type "MSCONFIG" and enable the "/SAFEBOOT" option from the BOOT.INI tab

When you PC as started in SAFEBOOT run it as suggested above.

You can also access it by double clicking on My Computer

In that window right click on the drive you want to check and select Properties.

In that window select tools tab.
    Now select Check Now button
Put a tick Automatically fix fie system errors
If you suspect the drive to be fault place a tick in Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, as well.

    Then click Start

It will take sometime to complete and its best to let it complete before using your PC.

Again if your antivirus or anti-spyware software is conflicting with the Chkdsk process start in SAFEBOOT.

    Binnguyen,

Type only chkdsk C: /f while in the (DOS) Command Prompt.

Dan... I did so, but it said... Access Denied as you do not have sufficient privileges.
You have to invok this utility running in elevated mode.
I think I have a different problem. Can you go to my post and check it out please.
