I have a Dell inspinon 1000. I use AVG but there is a difficulty because although I never signed up for Mcafee it came with the computer and it is interfering with the AVG. I cannot find the Mcafee in my list of programs and cannot therefore uninstall. I have been told that if I start in 'safe mode' I should be able to find it but Dell does not say how to start in safe mode. Also it's bloody cold.

Press/tap F2 or F8 when booting to get the MS Boot Options.

I agree, dump McCafee. I would also suggest Avast! as an AntiVirus program, and Comodo (Firewall ONLY, not the suite).
