this all started to happen a month or so back. i have an alienware Aurora m9700 and for some reason the space bar started including a - in front of every space... and it has gradually gotten worse. now the only keys that work are -=][#'/\ and 9756 on the number pad and very sporadically. ive looked around and other problems are similar but not the same and i cant find a solution. i have a 'hijackthis' read out but none of it makes sense. some say it could be a virus but when i plug in a usb keyboad it works fine??
can anyone point me in the right direction of what i should be doing/looking for.

Sounds to me like you need to replace the keyboard. They are pretty easy to replace on most laptops. Just did some Google searches and apparently it's damned near impossible to get a replacement Alienware Laptop keyboard for the M9700/M9750. Even eBay doesn't have any.

Not sure what to tell you other than to continue to use the USB keyboard and keep searching Google until you find one.

Just to add on...

Wondering if the Keyboard connection to the motherboard is loose? I had a Dell Latitude at work recently that the Display was constantly blanking out...thought is was a bad Display until I removed and reseated the plug to the motherboard. Display now works great...has not blanked out since. Anyways just a thought.
